Census records indicate that I.A. Partin was born in Tennessee around 1806.
I.A. appears on the Whitley Co. Tax list 1829-1850 with his holdings growing from 50 acres on Laurel Fork in 1829, adding an additional 25 acres by 1835 and another 100 acres by 1840. I.A. is listed next to his father, William, in 1830. He settled at mouth of Clear Creek, just above the Clear Creek Bridge past the Narrows (where Dude Partin later lived).
Three children under 5 were listed in 1830 census (2 boys, 1 girl).
Four children 5-16 were listed in 1840 (suggests a son & daughter, b. 1824-1830, not in 1850 census. [John P. Tye, age 27 TN, and Charity, 23, TN and Flemm 9/12, b. TN were listed next to I.A. Charity could be his oldest daughter.] Five children listed in 1850.
Real estate valued at $700 in 1850. His possesions grew to 500 acres and 10 cattle on Clear Fork in 1850 (page 19, entry 37). The1859 tax roll listed 600 acreas on Clear Creek
I.A. Parton was listed in the Whitley & Knox County Tax Rolls for 1856.
William's birth certificate listed Sarah Garrett as his mother and I.A. Partin as his father.
A conveyance deed was registered and signed by Ira A. Partin's heirs on April 11, 1887 permitting the sale of 1300 acres known as the Mining Company Land. Each heir received $10 for the sale. Deeds gave his full name, Ira Anderson Partin, though he seems to have used I.A. Partin in most documents.
An unidentified child died 14 Mar. 1922 at age 86 (Bell Co. death record) listing Sarah Garrett as mother and I.A. Partin as father.
From Fuson's History of Bell County, Kentucky, 1939:
"I.A. Partin came to this country from England with the Hendersons. They intermarried. I.A. Partin settled at the mouth of Clear Creek, just above the Clear Creek Bridge south of the Narrows, where Dude Partin later lived. Then he left his farm to his sons and went to the head of Clear Creek about 1870, where the Hendersons had settled.
I.A. Partin married Susan Potter of Clay County, Horse Creek, whose farm join the Garrard farm. They had seven children: (1) Bill ("Blacksmith Bill") Partin, who lived in Pineville, (2) Shelt ("Toby") Partin, (3) Ephraim Partin, (4) Ben Partin, (5) John Partin, (6) ELiza Ann Partin, who married a Bowman and reared a family on Tackett Creek."
"Dude Partin was a son of I.A. Partin and had, among other children: (1) Sylvester Partin, (2) Mat Partin." [Note: There are several obvious errors in Fuson's account of I.A. , most notably the immigration in 1780 from England. Census records indicate I.A. was born in Tennessee.
