1 William PARTIN
Birth bet 1760/1770
Death ca 1838

Census records indicate that Winston (ca. 1780-89) and Shelton (1792) were born in Virginia. Elam was born in Tennessee about 1795. Census records indicate I.A. was born in KY. The family apparently settled in the region now included in Claiborne Co., Tennessee near the Kentucky border.

1801 - Listed on Hawkins Co., TN tax list.
1802 & 1803 - Listed on Claiborne Co., TN tax list. [Note: Claiborne County, Tennessee was formed October 29, 1801 from parts of Hawkins and Grainger Counties.]
1810 - Appears with Winston & Shelton Partin in Knox Co. tax list.
On 2 Oct. 1819, William Partin transferred land to Jesse Moore (Deed Book C, p. 151) and to William Pearl (Deed Bk. C., p. 151).
1818, Whitley County was created form part of Knox County. William appears on the Whitley County Tax list from that point.
1820, William Partin, Sr. paid one poll and listed a personal value of $0.

1820 Whitley Co census lists William as over 45, wife over 45; 1 male 10-16 (Ira Anderson); 2 females 10-16; 1 female under 10; 2 males under 10 (Jonathan & Andrew Jackson).

September 23, 1823 - A Knox County, Kentucky survey was conducted for Dorcus Hayes, assignee of William Partin who was assignee of Robert George, fifty acres of land (KY land warrant no. 8671), situate in said county on the South fork of Clear Creek, ajoining the Lower line of a 120 acre survey of Joseph Hains. (Knox County Survey Book 2, p. 74).

The 1824 tax roll listed on horse for WIlliam and a net worth of $100.
1819-1837 - Whitley Co. tax list.
1830 Whitley Co. census 60-70 years. old; f 15-20, m 10-15, f 5-10.
In 1830 William lived next to Shelton, Elam, William, Jr., & I.A. Partin.
1833 Claiborne Co., TN tax list mentions William Partin and Levi Partin, both over 21 yrs. old. (1 poll listed, may have been under 50 yrs. old and not exempt).

Three letters written by Kate Moser (obtained from Evlyn Broumley, 1998) refers to Trammell, Johnson and Parton families. Kate was born in 1883 and her parents live near Andrew Jackson and his wife. As they died in 1896 and 1898, Kate would have been old enough to have known and talked with her grandparents.

Male children listed in Kate Moser's "Family History" (obtained from Evlyn Bromley, 1998). Wince, Vince, Shelton, I.A. & Eli are listed as half-brothers of Johnathan and Andrew Jackson; all as sons of Billy Parton. Referred to Grandpa (Andrew Jackson) Partin's father as Billy Parton.

Census records indicate at least three daughters: 2 born 1804-1810; 1 born 1810-1820 (possibly a daughter of Vinson).

The will of John Saunders dated June 30, 1807 and filed in Hawkins Co., Tennessee mentioned land "Stephen Parten is now living on" (Gardner, 1991).

Note: Claiborne County, Tennessee was formed October 29, 1801 from parts of Hawkins and Grainger Counties.

Hawkins County: "Most of Hawkins County's first settlers migrated from Southern Virginia.
Others came from near the headwaters of the Yadkin and Catawba Rivers, just
east of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina (near present-day Salisbury)."

1.1a.1 William PARTIN
Birth 1805-1808, TN
Death 27 Sep 1853, Whitley County, KY
Occ Farmer

I've tentatively listed Winston as the father. None of the others were married early enough to be his father as 1805 is his birthdate. Lived next to I.A. Partin & William, Sr. in 1830.

1840 Claiborne County, Tennessee Federal census, page 236:
WilliamParton, 1m-5, 1m5-10, 1m20-30, 1f-5, 1f20-30

The 1850 census lists William as 45 and Shelton as 58, only 13 years older, plus Shelton named a son born in 1828 William; so it seems plausible to elimiate him as William's father.

William Partin and Levi Partin are listed in the 1833 Claiborne Co. Tax list. Could be William Partin the senior (probably this William's grandfather).

1841 - William Partin bought land for $225 from Solomon Seals, Claiborne County, Tennessee (bk. T, p. 126).

Lived next to Shelton (b. 1792) & Ephriam Overton (b. 1813) in 1850. Real Estate valued at $200.
William 45 TN, Shelton 18 KY, Hannah 14, Sally 12, Rachael 10, William, 8, Nancy 6.
