Dorothy Harris vs Avis Partin, Ann Usher Minutes of the Council and General Court, June 4, 1626 (Volume 25, page 344) "Ann Usher and Avis Partin, shall be openly whipped in the fort at James City, for their offence - not exceeding 40 lashes." (Avis would have been about 7 years old!). The following year Margaret Partin, Ann's mother, was charged with "concealing the offence of Thomas Hayle, lately executed" and ordered to received 40 lashes." | ||||||||||
